Adam Curtis Online showcases a special selection of textile products that have been designed, developed and produced within the UK by either ourselves or top UK designers. Although we prefer working with British Wool and supporting the British wool industry, other wools and fibres are sometimes used, more often than not to create something truly unique. We believe in only using the very best materials for the job and never use cheap fibre or questionable sources in our products. Country of origin is always clearly stated in item descriptions.
AVL Loom’s facilities are located in the beautiful city of Chico, in Northern California’s central valley at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains. A few years ago we added solar panels to a portion of our building and, in addition to saving on engergy consumption, we can actually provide power back to the grid during Chico’s long summer days. Although some of our manufacturing techniques have changed over the years, all of our products are hand-finished and assembled by one of our skilled craftsmen here in Chico, many of whom have been working with AVL for over 20 years. As you may notice, nowadays most all of our products (including all of our looms) are made from sustainably sourced Ash hardwood. We donate our wood shaving to local farmers who use it for composting.
Bellacouche Wool Felt Studio is homed in a beautiful old Dartmoor Chapel. Inspired by nature, Devon Guild Felt Maker Yuli Sømme, assisted by craftsperson Fiona Rynn, lovingly creates earth friendly, wool felt products and offers creative felt craft workshops. All our products are completely plastic free, we re-use, recycle everything we can, and compost anything that’s left over. We also make burial items in wool felt, that are eco-conscious and provide a soft, embracing cocoon into which to lay our dead to rest.
Bristol Cloth is made with holistically farmed and biologically washed wool from Fernhill Farm, using carbon sequestering practices to lock carbon back into the soil where it belongs, regenerate soil fertility and offer the highest standards of animal welfare. Our lambswool yarn is naturally dyed with certified organic plant dyes by Botanical Inks. And woven at the Bristol Weaving Mill, the first industrial loom to open in Bristol in nearly 100 years. The entire process is done without the use of toxic synthetic chemicals and set mainly within a 15 mile radius of Bristol. Reducing the carbon footprint and creating a cloth which is actually safe to make, use, wear and go back into the ground at the end of its useful life cycle. Our system is fully traceable and contributes to our local community and economy, with fair pay terms to all suppliers.
Bysshe Partnership is an independent company producing high quality fabrics in the traditional textile heartland of the British Isles. We use natural and organic fibres, sourcing yarns from the UK and Europe, to provide a regional network of production where it is possible to oversee the entire process from seed to final creation. Our fabrics are woven in Lancashire on Jacquard looms and finished in Yorkshire. They are woven with hemp from Cornwall and Romania and certified Masters of Linen weft yarn from Belgium, across cotton warp yarns.

Whether it’s the makers’ distinctive style, the character of the piece, the inspiration behind its origins, there’s always more to tell than meets the eye. Every product has a story. The impact we have on the environment as a business, is an important consideration for us. The products we create are largely based on natural, sustainable and recycled materials made through a handmade process.
